Hugs and Welts

Welts add so much to an item. Especially the Hugs and Kisses Sock pattern. They look fabulous on this sock. Here is an easy trick to doing them. I'm sure most of you know this already but there are bright shiny pictures anyway.

In a welt you will need to pick up stitches from previous rows and knit them together with current row. A fast way to knit this is to pick up the previous row's stitches with one needle and work it together. Click the above picture to enlarge.

Stop.
Click it again.
Notice anything odd about the needles?

See this:

Looks like a crochet hook right?
Why the hell am I knitting with a crochet hook?
It's not a crochet hook.
Confused?
These things were a St.Swivens gift from Betsy. They are Portuguese knitting needles. One end is a knitting point and the other is a crochet hook. It makes Continental knitting fly. I love it. Thank you again Betsy. You rock!

I haven't touched these socks since knitting group Monday night. But I absolutely love this pattern and I hope I get to finish one sock this weekend.

ooooo! oooooo! I want some too! Can you ask Betsy where she got them? Check my blog later this afternoon - I *think* I'll have a big announcement. Love the socks. Makes me want to finish my current projects and make socks with the yarn on the wheel.

Woah. I didn't know knitting needles like that were being manufactured nowadays. I am impressed. The sock is great too; it's exciting to see your handspun worked up that way, and I like the colors. :)

Lacis.com sells those needles.
And Amy, you have no idea how happy I am to hear that you like the pattern since I so admire your knitting. And I love the way you worked the heel. ;-)

OH WOW. Would you believe one of my knitting students said she found some needles like that in some of her grandmother's things that she inherited - she wanted to know what they'd be used for...

Why does it go faster, do you know?

I am very curious about those needle too... I love the color of your socks it looks great with that pattern.

A copyright is a copyright is a copyright. Don't copy copyrighted things without permission. You'll notice my stuff is all copyrighted. Its all for personal use and that's cool. That's sharing. Copying and selling my pattern is stealing. Same for all designers and their patterns. Play well and don't break copyright law. Share nice.

Sharing certainly doesn't mean you can Steal bandwidth. Hotlinking is very bad.

Share nice and I'll be your buddy, be a troll and I'll torch all your needles.
